Gunner Ashby was born with an extra amount of love and fight inside his tiny heart. He was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome (HRHS) while his mother, Karen, was 22 weeks pregnant. After being born on Valentine’s Day, he was transferred to Cook Children’s and had his first open heart surgery at two days old. He went on to have three more open heart and chest surgeries. Much of his 199 day stay with us was spent in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit because he was so sick. Gunner was finally able to go home just in time for the holidays after nearly seven months. Since then, he flew to Colorado for a family vacation and enjoys playing with his two-year-old sister Athena and their dog, Scout.

We wish Gunner a very Happy 1st Birthday and a Happy Valentine’s Day to all of our brave patients and families! ❤️
