Neuroscience Research Team Shines at American Epilepsy Society Annual Meeting

Christos Papadelis, Ph.D., director of Neuroscience Research, led a group of seven researchers and graduate students from Cook Children’s to the the 75th American Epilepsy Society (AES) Annual Meeting hosted Dec. 3-7 in Chicago.

During the weekend’s events, they presented their work in pediatric epilepsy with two talks. The first, by Dr. Padadelis, was on ‘Electrophysiological Biomarkers of GABA metabolism in Succinic Semialdehyde Dehydrogenase Deficiency.’  The second was by Lorenzo Ricci, Ph.D., and titled ‘Electric Source Imaging on Ictal Conventional Scalp EEG delineates the Seizure Onset and Predicts Surgical Outcome in Children with Epilepsy.’

The group also showcased 24 posters on the development of novel biomarkers that help children with drug resistant epilepsy to become seizure free. Two members, Ludovica Corona and Margherita Matarrese, won the young investigator award that recognizes young investigators conducting basic, translational, or clinical epilepsy research. Their scientific abstracts were selected from more than 1,300 submissions for this honor!
